Pluribus: Facebook Heralds Its ‘Superhuman’ Poker-Playing AI

Facebook’s artificial intelligence team has made what it describes as a “superhuman” poker champion, a bot with the ability to beat world-leading human pros. Facebook is heralding the AI bot, named Pluribus, as a major breakthrough: the first capable of beating as many as six players, in a game that involves “hidden” information – the cards that are yet to be revealed. The team’s research also makes humbling reading for any poker players proud of their ability to spot a “tell”. “We think of bluffing as this very human trait,” explained…

Google shifting Nest, Other Hardware Manufacturing Out Of China

Google is taking proactive measures to counter the possible effects of the U.S. trade war with China. A report today revealed that Google is shifting Nest and server hardware manufacturing out of China into Taiwan. According to Bloomberg, Google has “already shifted much of its production of U.S.-bound motherboards to Taiwan.” These components are crucial to powering data centers around the world, with Google taking a more proactive approach than its competitors in light of tariffs and “an increasingly hostile government in Beijing.” While the likes of Amazon (AWS), Microsoft (Azure), and Facebook…

Robots On The Road – How Close Is Our “Driverless” Future?

It was on the motorway near Phoenix, Arizona, that I realised fully driverless cars might be quite a distant dream. And that was because our Google Waymo robo-taxi seemed incapable of leaving that motorway. We were in Arizona to record a radio documentary for the BBC World Service about the progress towards creating autonomous vehicles that would make our roads safer and replace human drivers with robots. Google leads this race at the moment and for the past six months has been offering a robo-taxi service, Waymo One, to a…

Trump’s Huawei Ban ‘Wins’ One Trade Battle

Indeed, Huawei’s executive director and chairman of its investment review board, David Wang, told Bloomberg that, “Our U.S. business is not that big. We have global operations. We still will have stable operations.” Wang is right… to a point. Huawei derives most of its sales from international markets, according to a 2018 financial report released earlier this year, but it depends heavily on technology from U.S. chip manufacturers for its equipment. Without those supplies, Huawei could find itself in a very difficult spot, indeed. Huawei’s end of year financials showed its consumer devices business…

Elon Musk, SEC Agree To Guidelines On Twitter Use

Tesla,  Elon Musk and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reached an agreement Friday that will give the CEO freedom to use Twitter —within certain limitations — without fear of being held in contempt for violating an earlier court order. Musk can tweet as he wishes except when it’s about certain events or financial milestones. In those cases, Musk must seek pre-approval from a securities lawyer, according to the agreement filed with Manhattan federal court. U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan, the presiding judge on this matter, must still approve the deal. Nathan had given…

Tesla Plans To Launch A Robotaxi Network In 2020

Tesla  expects to launch the first robotaxis as part of broader vision for an autonomous ride-sharing network in 2020, CEO Elon Musk  said during the company’s Autonomy Day. “I feel very confident predicting that there will be autonomous robotaxis from Tesla next year — not in all jurisdictions because we won’t have regulatory approval everywhere” Musk said without detailing what regulations he was referring to. He added that he is confident the company will have regulatory approval somewhere next year. Tesla will enable owners to add their properly equipped vehicles to its own…

New Delhi: Social media giant Facebook said today that it has removed 687 pages and accounts linked to individuals associated with an IT Cell of the Congress party as it cracks down on fake accounts and spam ahead of national elections. Google To Shut Down Google+ Tomorrow, 2 April

Google is finally closing the social network it set up in an ill-fated attempt to take on Facebook, the company has confirmed. Google+ will be shut down for good tomorrow, with all profiles and pages to be deleted on that day. The announcement has caused confusion among some google users; the company made it easy for people to create a Google+ page by accident, leaving many unaware they had joined the social network in the first place. Pristine Voice tries to answer some key questions surrounding the closure. What is…
